Boeing
Air Force One In-Flight Navigation Software
Boeing’s ability to transform complex visions into reality was proven when my team was asked to build a satellite communication and tracking in-flight platform to assist pilots with government and military aircraft navigation; including the U.S. Presidential Aircraft.
The innovative enhancements and interactive features that were designed for the resulting product allowed users the ability to consume intricate real-time data at a glance; partnering with pilots and flight engineers to learn their systems.
Role
Over 6 months, I was the product design lead and shaped the platform from end-to-end. My responsibilities focused on redesigned a multimillion dollar software that has been integrated into countless aircrafts including Air Force One.
I facilitated workshops with government official and military personnel. Proactively communicate the vision to stakeholders and engineers to pivot the project and ensure a safe and reliable product. We conducted dozens of interview and users found the interface confusing and hard to interpret complex data, due to inaccurate and unrealistic scenarios.

Problem
Users need an intuitive navigation app with enhanced features that is realistic because they require optimal performance, precision and safety when operating flight systems, but the current software is confusing to use.
Challenges
Because the legacy app is antiquated, lacking good usability and crucial features to ensure optimal performance; SMEs consider the product unreliable. This lead to a decline in safety confidence and difficulty training users. Pilots don’t have a reliable way to monitor the airspace and perform complicated mid-air maneuvers. Over 500 errors are reported monthly and about 15 pilots are trained per year due to the complexity of the system.
Solution
Reimagine and improve the app by building a new interface that is highly intuitive, safe and functional; while developing framework that would allow for scalability and mass production.
